IPOH: The Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Depart-ment has recorded the highest number of action taken against suspects involved in drug activities for the first five months of the year.
A total of 5,179 suspects were arrested for various drug related offences compared to 4,043 the same period last year, said Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Paramasivam.
Compared to the rest of the police contingents in the country, the figures recorded in Perak were the highest, he added.
DCP Paramasivam said there was an increase of 1,136 suspects arrested or 28.10% compared to the same period last year, he told reporters after witnessing the handing over of duties between the department’s acting chief Supt Mohd Nasri Omar to the new chief, Asst Comm Yap Toon Khuan, at the state police headquarters here yesterday.
ACP Yap was previously the Pahang police narcotics department head.
He had also served in various departments in Sabah and Johor.
