IPOH: A father and his son were crushed to death after an old oil palm tree fell on them in Pantai Remis, some 90km from here, Friday morning.

Mogandas Sokalingam, 37, and Sivabalan Mogandas, 13, were riding on their motorcycle when strong winds blew the tree off its roots and it fell on them at about 3am.

Taiping Fire Station senior officer Izuan Che Ibrahim said the victims were travelling on the road near Awan Timur Oil Palm Factory during the incident.

A rescue team had to use chainsaws to cut the tree and remove the bodies, he said, adding that the victims died at the scene.
