KOTA KINABALU: A suspected thief threatened to jump off a building when cornered by police, leading to a 15-minute standoff that ended when he eventually surrendered.
Police had earlier caught him red-handed at an apartment which the 29-year-old cyber cafe worker had broken into.
The man managed to flee to the top floor of the four-storey apartment block.
City police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said the man then threatened to jump off the building when the police did not back off.
There was a 15-minute standoff during which the officers stood their ground and watched him.
“Eventually, the suspect just walked down and surrendered,” he said.
