Tragic end: The Proton Waja being lifted from the sea near Lumut Port.
IPOH: A motorist was killed when his car plunged into the sea at the Lekir Bulk Terminal in Lumut Port.
Manjung Fire Station senior officer Ismail Othman said the driver, who has yet to be identified, drowned after being trapped in his car during the incident at about 11.30pm on Wednesday near Sitiawan.
He said police received a call from jetty workers shortly after that.
“As it was dark, we had to rely on sonar devices lent by the jetty workers to look for the vehicle,” he said, adding that scuba divers were called in at 8am yesterday.
He said the car was hauled up with the use of a crane at the jetty.
