The Ayer Molek detention centre along Jalan Ayer Molek. Five inmates have been hospitalised while two have been sent to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following a meningitis outbreak within the facility.
JOHOR BARU: The reason for the meningococcal meningitis case that broke out at the Jalan Ayer Molek detention centre here could be due to poor ventilation and overcrowding, said Johor Health and Environment Exco Datuk Ayub Rahmat.
He said that the state government is urging the Home Ministry to hasten the process of looking for a new and suitable location to build a new detention centre to replace the current one.
