GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government never gave permission for the use of the state crest on the posters declaring "Hudud for All in 2020" found on roadsides here, said Town & Country Planning and Housing Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.

He said the irresponsible people who had put up the posters had violated the law for having used the state government crest without permission.

"That is definitely illegal because you have to have permission from the Penang state government to use the crest. The Penang state government has nothing to do with the posters.

"A report will be lodged and the EC (Election Commission) will have to take down all of these posters that are not authorised," he told a press conference here.

The DAP candidate for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election, Ramkarpal Singh Deo, also attended the press conference.

Jagdeep, the assemblyman for Datuk Keramat, was commenting on several posters declaring "Hudud for All" and "Hudud in Penang 2020" bearing imprints of the state crest, the DAP flag and a photograph of Ramkarpal Singh found here.

Ramkarpal said he rejected the implementation of hudud in the country as his stand was similar to that of his late father Karpal Singh and the DAP.

"We are always with DAP's stand ... nothing has changed. We remain consistent," he said.

Recently, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the DAP state government did not agree with the implementation of hudud in the state and that the state government clearly rejected hudud. - Bernama
