PETALING JAYA: Popular travel website TripAdvisor has ranked the Seven Terraces in George Town as the hotel with the best service in Malaysia.
The hotel, located at Stewart Lane in the city’s World Heritage Site, topped the list of Malaysian hotels compiled by TripAdvisor, which provides travel information and reviews by tourists.
The Seven Terraces is a private hotel with 18 suites, which was transformed into a romantic retreat from seven Anglo Chinese terraces in Penang.
The Casa del Mar in Langkawi claimed second spot in the list of the Top 25 Hotels for Service in Malaysia.
Third place went to The Danna Langkawi Malaysia while Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa in Batu Ferringhi were ranked fourth and fifth.
TripAdvisor chief marketing officer Barbara Messing said it was pleased to highlight hotels that were recognised by their guests for providing superior service.
“Travellers have millions of hotels to choose from and service is one way to stand out in the crowd. When you have a happy customer, they spread the word,” she said in a statement here yesterday.
TripAdvisor announced its Travellers’ Choice Hotels with Exceptional Service awards yesterday, honouring 1,762 properties in 98 regions and countries.
The awards also produced individual lists for Asia, Africa, Australia, China, Europe, Japan, Middle East, Britain and the United States.
Winners were determined based on the reviews by TripAdvisor travellers worldwide.
For Malaysia, the results showed that travellers received superb treatment in Langkawi where six properties were in the top 25 list.
Casa del Mar Langkawi resort manager Patrick Ng said the hotel was elated to claim the second spot.
“It is rewarding to know that travellers from all over the world have been touched by the intimate hospitality that is the pride of our hotel,” he said.
For the best 25 hotels in Asia, the Hanoi Serene Hotel in Vietnam topped the list, followed by The Place Luxury Boutique Villas in Ko Tao, Thailand, and the Holiday Diamond Hotel in Hue, Vietnam.
