No way through: The truck and its trailer lying across both lanes along the KM19 stretch of the Bentong-Raub road.
BENTONG: A man was killed in a head-on collision after his multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) veered to the opposite side of the road and smashed into an oncoming trailer truck along the 19th kilometre of the Bentong-Raub road.
Bentong OCPD Supt Mansor Mohd Nor said the truck driver swerved sharply to his left in an attempt to avoid crashing into the MPV, which was heading from Raub around 2.05am.
“However, the MPV rammed the truck and threw the vehicle off-course.
“The truck fell into a ditch by the roadside before overturning across the road,” he said.
A car coming from behind the MPV skidded to a halt and managed to avoid crashing into the overturned truck.
However, a second car behind it was not able to brake in time and bumped into the back of the first vehicle.
Supt Mansor said that the two drivers were uninjured in the collision.
“The truck driver and his assistant were on their way from Bentong when the accident happened.
“The driver escaped without injury while his assistant is being treated at the Temerloh hospital,” he added.
The MPV driver, who suffered severe head injuries, was pronounced dead on arrival at Bentong hospital.
Supt Mansor said the road was dark and dry when the collision took place early yesterday.
