KUALA TERENGGANU : Former Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said made a big mistake in leaving the party, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
The Umno vice -president said the Kijal assemblyman should have complied with the agreement that he signed earlier.
"There is no reason for him to tarnish the party's image like this.
"Terengganu is no stranger to political turmoil thus I hope all parties can act rationally," he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Hishammuddin, who is a former Terengganu Umno liaison chairman, called on party leaders to close rank and focus on defending Umno and Barisan Nasional's position in the state.
"I hope party leaders and supporters will not overreact due to the latest development.
"We should give the party's leadership time to solve this matter," he said.
