KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will be looking to share operational costs as search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 enters a new, much longer phase.
“Before this, there has been no talk of dollars and cents, but to be fair to our partners (in the search), it is time for us to look at it more seriously as we go in for the long haul,” said Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Hishammuddin said he will bring up the matter while tabling the plans to move forward in the search to the Cabinet on Wednesday.
“The main points which will be tabled include the outcome of the tripartite ministerial meeting between Malaysia, Australia and China which were very positive and constructive,” he said after meeting with Royal Australian Navy chief Vice Admiral Ray Griggs during his first official visit to Malaysia.
Hishammuddin also said that any request for information regarding MH370 should be put forward to the panel of plane disappearance investigating experts – including the National Transportation Safety Board, UK Air Accident Investigation Bureau and China’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Department.
“Let the panel decide. If it doesn’t effect their investigation, by all means we can release it,” he said in response to the recent requests by the families of those onboard MH370, for the Malaysian Government to release the raw Inmarsat data.
On the South China Sea territorial dispute, Hishamuddin urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and diplomacy.
He said this following discussions on surging maritime tensions at the recent 24th Asean Summit in Myanmar, which was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“Asean has to be united in deciding our destiny to ensure there is no miscalculation in the negotiations,” he said.
