PUCHONG: Pakatan Rakyat leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is all for the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) but only if the government can eradicate the sort of corrupt practices that are highlighted in the auditor general’s reports every year.
"They should only implement GST once they can solve the problems of leakages," he told a lecture at the Centre for Reform Democracy and Social Initiatives.
He said the GST was an efficient tax system because it was transparent across the board.
"Why do you have GST? To have an efficient system. So you must avoid the leakages. This is what the auditor general has been saying in his report," he said.
He added that the level of income had to be raised as well because the burden of the tax would be shared by a larger segment of society.
