KUALA LUMPUR: Plans are underway for the construction of a joint-venture (JV) sugar refinery project in Johor, which is likely to see the price of the commodity fall.
While the venture would result in lower sugar prices for consumers, its unintended effect could be an increase in sugar-smuggling activity in the country, the Muslim Consumers’ Association of Malaysia (PPIM) said.
