PETALING JAYA: Two days after he joined Twitter, superstar Rajinikanth (pic) garnered more than 277,000 followers on his micro-blogging site and the numbers are increasing by the minute.
The 63-year-old South Indian actor, known for his masala movies and flamboyant style, posted his first tweet and as of Wednesday, it had been re-tweeted more than 16,000 times by followers.
"Salutation to the Lord. Vanakkam anaivarukkum (Greeting everyone)!! A big thank you to all my fans. Excited on this digital journey," tweeted the actor with his Twitter handle @superstarrajini.
Indian digital celebrity network Fluence will handle his micro-blogging site and other digital interests.
Rajinikanth joins the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Amir Khan in engaging with their fans through social media.
His highly-anticipated period film Kochadaiiyaan, directed by his younger daughter Soundarya R. Ashwin will be released on Friday and has already generated immense interest because it is India's first "photo-realistic motion-capture" movie.
