Crushing grief: Relatives reacting as Seah’s mother collapses after seeing her son’s body at their home in Teluk Intan.
IPOH: DAP has lost another leader when Teluk Intan MP Seah Leong Peng (pic) died of bladder cancer.
The 48-year-old politician leaves wife Kee Sui Lian, 44, and three daughters, Jia Xin, 18, Jia Yi, 17 and Yi Qin, 15. They had accompanied the body home from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, after he died at 7.40am yesterday.
Seah’s death came just weeks after veteran DAP leader and Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh was killed in a car crash on April 17.
As Seah’s body was brought to the family house at Taman Impian, Teluk Intan at 1.40pm, his mother fainted and had to be helped by relatives.
Jia Yi said her father was a caring and loving family man despite his busy schedule.
Ipoh Timur MP Thomas Su, who was overseeing the funeral ceremony, said Seah’s battle with cancer began in February and his condition worsened over the past few months.
“He knew he did not have long to live, but never once did he discuss with anyone on seeking a successor.
“I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was a representative who fought hard for the people. He was also a friendly and easy-going man,” Su added.
“DAP has lost another leader. I hope the family will have patience to go through this hard times,” he said, adding that the DAP would look after the welfare of Seah’s family.
Pasir Bedamar assemblyman R. N. Terence Naidu said Seah was a dedicated party worker.
“I thought that he would get better. He was always energetic and has lots of unfinished matters as a state representative. His voters will feel his loss,” he added.
Seah’s wake would be held at his house in 53, Lorong Ciku G7/6, Taman Impian, Jalan Manggis until Saturday.
The cremation would be held at the Temoh Crematorium in Tapah at about 10am.
Seah won the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat in the 13th general election, polling 27,399 votes against Barisan Nasional’s Mah Siew Kong, who got 20,086 votes and Independent candidate K. Moralingam (279 votes).
Seah was formerly a three-term assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar since 1999.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said Seah’s death was a big loss to the state.
“He has always shown respect to others, including those in Barisan Nasional.
“He was a friendly state representative with a strong sense of loyalty,” he added.
