Businessman fined for selling illegal hacking devices

KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman was fined RM15,000 by the Sessions Court for supplying and selling 47 hacking devices which were not certified by Sirim.

Judge Azwarnida Affandi also ordered Tung Lun Tak, 44, to serve one year in jail if he failed to pay the fine. Tung paid the fine.

Tung was charged with supplying and selling non-certified broadband hacking devices, comprising five units of High Power Signal King, seven units of Sinmax and 35 units of WiFiSky, at his house in Jalan Damai Perdana 9/2J, Bandar Damai Perdana, Cheras here at 12.30 pm on Oct 22 last year.

He was charged under Section 239 (1)(c) of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or two years' jail, or both, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, Tung's activities were detected by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission after one of its officers placed an order to purchase a unit of WiFi Cracker from Tung through SMS and Internet banking.

A week later, the officer received the device from Tung Network Trading and submit it to Sirim for testing.

The results revealed that the device was never approved and was banned in the country.
