PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) will meet on Thursday to discuss the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat following the death of its MP Karpal Singh.
EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said it received notification from the Dewan Rakyat Speaker
at 11am yesterday on the vacancy of the seat.
The special meeting will be held at the EC headquarters in Putrajaya abd will be followed by a press conference by EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, he said in a statement.
Karpal, 74, was killed in an accident at 1.10am at the North-South Expressway near Gua Tempurung, Kampar. In the 2013 general election, Karpal won the Bukit Gelugor seat under the DAP ticket with a 41,778-vote majority by beating Teh Beng Yeam from the Barisan Nasional.
