TEMERLOH: A 1.5km-long temporary pipe to connect the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project tunnel to Sungai Langat can be completed by October or November.

Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who disclosed this, said this was possible provided the Cabinet and Pahang government gave approval.

He said the temporary pipe was an option being considered to resolve the water crisis in the Klang Valley.

“Raw water can then be transferred from Sungai Semantan in Pahang via the tunnel to Sungai Langat to be treated at existing plants,” he told reporters before opening a Temerloh Umno conference in Mentakab here yesterday.

A 44.6km-long tunnel was originally designed to channel water directly to the already delayed Langat 2 water treatment plant.

Mahdzir said the Federal Government, through the water crisis committee headed by the ministry, was weighing all options to help ease the people’s water woes.

“Most important of all is that the people of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya come out on top in this issue,” he said.

Mahdzir also announced that cloud seeding operations would be continued to alleviate the water shortage at dams.
