ALOR SETAR: Five family members, including a nine-month-old baby, managed to escape unhurt from their blazing house at Jalan Sekolah, Alor Merah, near here.
The 8.30am fire yesterday was believed to have started in the kitchen and spread to the dining room of the single-storey house.
Azmi Ishak, 68, said apart from himself, his wife Fatimah Omar, 67; daughter Nor Azah, 27; son-in-law Che Wahizul Hafia Che Wahab, 29; and grandchild Che Nur Ariana were in the house at the time.
“We were alerted by my daughter when she spotted the fire.”
The bus supervisor at Shahab Perdana here said he managed to get his family out and save some important documents.
Alor Setar Fire and Rescue operation chief Muhamad Mahayuddin said three fire engines controlled the fire from spreading. “The cause of it is still being investigated.” – Bernama
