KULIM: A Form Four student, said to be a healthy and active teenager, collapsed outside his classroom and was pronounced dead at the Kulim Hospital here.
Wong Ding Wei, 17, had fainted while queuing with other boys to enter his classroom at SMK Lunas near here yesterday morning.
His father, Wong Thean An, 43, said a teacher informed him about the incident at 8am.
“I rushed to the hospital and a doctor told me my son’s heart had stopped beating while he was on the way to the hospital,” said the distraught father at the hospital’s forensics department. The boy was pronounced dead at around 8.30am.
Thean An, a father of two, said Ding Wei had no health problem.
“He is someone who is healthy and active. I have no idea why he suddenly fainted,” he said.
School headmaster Subberi Ramli said the students were returning to their class after the morning assembly.
“According to some students, Ding Wei had complained of a muscle cramp before he fainted.
“His friends immediately called the teachers for help. His pulse was still beating then,” Subberi said.
“Ding Wei had told his friends a few days ago he was always feeling tired.”
Kulim OCPD Supt Ghuzlan Saleh said the case had been classified as sudden death.
