KUALA LUMPUR: The cast of Jersey Boys is all set for a big opening night of the smash hit Broadway musical at Istana Budaya here tonight.

The musical, which makes its Malaysian debut, will run till April 27.

“We are all very excited. It feels like we just arrived here, and we’re ready to roll!” said Daniel Buys, who plays Tommy DeVito in the award-winning show.

The actor was one of the four stars portraying the famous quartet who spoke at a media session at Istana Budaya yesterday.

Jersey Boys follows the inspiring rags-to-riches story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, one of the most iconic American pop groups of the 1960s.

The well-loved musical, now in its 10th year, will feature over 30 songs from The Four Seasons and Frankie Valli catalogue, including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like A Man, Rag Doll and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

Grant Almirall, who plays main character Frankie Valli, commented that the group’s rise to stardom was largely due to its songs “which had a lot of heart to them”.

“This is why the group was so big, why their songs survive till today. These songs address issues that are very real, problems that the average person on the street can relate to,” he said.

But Jersey Boys is much more than just the songs.

Kenneth Meyer, who plays Bob Gaudio, added: “You come to the show wanting to listen to the music, but you go home remembering the story. It’s an emotional roller coaster, you will laugh and you will cry.”

Jersey Boys has taken us to some amazing places in the world, with amazing audiences. And we are really looking forward to seeing the KL audience!” said Emmanuel Castis who plays Nick Massi.
