KUALA LUMPUR: The flight MH370 tragedy has compelled Malaysia and the world to relook at their defence capacity and capabilities especially in surveillance technology.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the incident has opened the eyes of the world to the need for improvement in radar technology.
"We feel that air assets should coordinate more with our assets in the sea in surveillance technology.
"I think not only Malaysia but the whole world should relook at their defence needs, capacity and capabilities in the context of MH370," he told a press conference after visiting the Defence Services Asia (DSA) exhibition in Putra World Trade Centre on Monday.
He added that it was important that the Defence industry improved its satellite data and communication, asset deployment as well as share certain civil and military information.
The Brijing-bound Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 with 239 on board disappeared from the radar screen about an hour after taking off from KL International Airport on March 8.
A search effort is taking place well out to sea off the Australian city of Perth to try to locate any wreckage as well as the recorders which may provide answers to what happened onboard.
