PETALING JAYA: PKR wants its candidates to behave themselves or risk being disqualified from contesting in the party elections.
PKR election director Datuk Johari Abdul said the party has come up with a clear guideline on how candidates should campaign in the run-up to the party polls.
“Any form of disagreement between candidates should be solved internally. The issues should not be highlighted in the media or to the public.
“Previously, we have had some candidates who discredited their opponents in the media, and we may call them up to investigate and if there is enough evidence, we will disqualify them (from contesting),” he said at a news conference at the party headquarters here yesterday.
The party elections begin on April 25 and end on May 11. A total of 496,923 registered party members are eligible to cast their votes.
Johari also warned candidates from engaging in money politics or giving any other form of inducement to secure votes in the party polls.
“We will be monitoring all aspiring candidates whether they are involved in money politics and even if the campaign managers said it, we will investigate,” he said.
Johari also confirmed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has not withdrawn and will take on his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the president’s post.
Incumbent deputy president Azmin Ali will be challenged by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution and Datuk K. Ramachandran.
Anwar’s daughter Nurul Izzah will be defending her vice-president’s post in a crowded race that would likely see 15 people contesting as Selangor state executive councillor and Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong withdrew from the contest.
