SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has agreed to proceed with the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) despite opposition from residents on its implementation.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the project was necessary to address the problem of traffic congestion in the area.

"I will have a meeting with the rakyat to give an explanation and listen to the woes of those who feel affected by its construction," he told reporters outside the Selangor State Assembly building.

The people around Damansara and Kinrara were recently reported to have protested outside the Selangor State Secretariat Building to appeal to the government to abort the project as it was feared to affect their safety.

The construction of Kidex, stretching 14km, is expected to begin next year with an estimated cost of RM2.2bil.
