PETALING JAYA: Selected households under the first, third and fourth phase of the water rationing exercise will receive an additional day of water.

This follows a slight increase of water levels at the Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat dams.

The areas under four phases now received water for two days followed by two days without water.

“The additional water is currently being distributed to the areas experiencing water rationing and will be rotated by region," Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) said.

“This means that the areas will continue to remain under the current rationing schedule but could receive water for at least a day more,” the water company said.

The decision to supply the additional water was made based on feedback from the the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS).

On rumours of the easing of water rationing, Syabas corporate communications assistant general manager Priscilla Alfred said the situation was temporary as water levels in the Sungai Selangor dam remained critically low.

“It is rather an additional water supply for the time being until the reversal of water rationing is issued by the Selangor government and the National Water Services Commission (SPAN),” she said.

Alfred said at the moment the Cheras Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi water treatment plants remained operational since it was reopened on March 30.

However, the operation of both plants could still be jeopardised due to the uncertain levels of ammonia in Sungai Langat.

"Users in the affected areas should prepare to face scheduled water rationing if the additional water supply ceases,” she added.
