Politicians, community leaders attend Peter Yeoh's memorial service in Brisbane

BRISBANE: Over 300 mourners, including politicians, community and business leaders, gathered at the City Hall here on Friday to bid farewell to Dr Peter Yeoh Tiong Yong, who died on March 27.

Civic and ethnic leaders as well as family members spoke of the wonderful work Yeoh had immersed himself in for the good of society.

Yeoh, who was prominent in the Malaysian building and construction industry before migrating to Australia in 1985, switched to business and philanthropic work, winning the hearts of the community here.

He was the founding president of the Australia Malaysia Business Council, Queensland; president of the Queensland Chinese Business and Professional Association and was involved in 20 other organisations here.

Following a Buddhist service, the cortege left for burial at the Centenary Memorial Gardens.

Yeoh leaves his wife Alice Mah Kam Moi, son Zak and daughters Patricia, Yvonne and Peggy, and four grandchildren.
