GEORGE TOWN: Heavy rain lasting more than an hour on Tuesday morning left thousands late for work and caused flooding in certain parts of Penang island.
Traffic congestion was especially serious at the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone due to the heavy downpour that begun at 8.10am.
An airline executive who declined to be named and who has worked at the Penang International Airport for several years lamented that road in front of the airport’s arrival hall was flooded.
“This happens every time it rains heavily,” he said.
Forecasts on the Meteorological Department’s website indicates that the rain on Tuesday morning will be followed by isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and rain in the evening.
