KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has left no stone unturned and was not
distracted by speculation or criticisms in its search for the missing MH370 plane, said acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
“I don’t think we could have done anything different from what we have already done,” he said in response to a question by the Financial Times.
The paper’s correspondent had asked: “What, if anything, could Malaysia have done differently,
looking back at the last three weeks?”
Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, reiterated his
earlier stand that history would judge Malaysia as being responsible and transparent despite the views and labels by naysayers.
He added that Malaysia had consistently collaborated or verified any evidence they received during the course of the investigations and the ongoing search.
He said they (Malaysia and assisting nations) never allowed speculation in the social media to divert attention from the main focus,
which is to identify the location of the plane.
“If you remember, in the early part of the search, nobody could imagine us looking for the plane in the Indian Ocean, where we are (searching) today.
“At that time we were talking about the plane landing in Naning, oil slicks in the South China Sea, sightings in the Strait of Malacca,” he said.
Hishammuddin said emotions may be running high and this could be clouding the public’s judgment about what Malaysia had done.
Defending Malaysia Airlines chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, Department of Civil Aviation director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman and himself, who had been facing the media, Hishammuddin said: “We have conducted ourselves fairly, responsibly and history will judge us for that.”
