PETALING JAYA: If the search in the Indian Ocean off Australia draws a blank, the next best bet is Sri Lanka or the Bay of Bengal, a high-level officer in the search and rescue operation for missing flight MH370 said.

A high ranking Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) official said working under the assumption that the plane was hijacked and deliberately flown off course towards the Indian Ocean, its remaining fuel would only allow it to travel as far as Sri Lanka or the Bay of Bengal.
