Hoping for the best: Chong, from G-Hotel, showing the news article of her uncle who was on a business trip to Beijing.
GEORGE TOWN: Before Jee Jing Hang boarded MH370 last Saturday for a business trip to Beijing, he told his wife he was expected to arrive in the Chinese capital at 6am that day.
It was the last contact that the family had with Jee, who was supposed to have celebrated his 41st birthday two days later, according to his niece Jenny Chong, 29.
The hotel executive is praying that her uncle and the others on board the missing Malaysia Airlines flight are safe, amid reports that the craft may have made an air turn back towards the Indian Ocean.
Chong said her uncle, who lives in Seremban with his wife and their two children aged 13 and 11, was a “jovial, positive and pleasant” person.
“He is always happy and approachable. We are hoping for a miracle.
“My family and I visited my aunt in Seremban but felt helpless as we could not do much to support her emotionally,” said Chong, who works at the G Hotel here.
The hotel had, on Wednesday, put up a message board for staff to pen their support for those on board MH370.
In Petaling Jaya, the Malaysian Association of China Students Alumni president Huang Bin, whose colleague was on board the flight, has reminded the public not to spread unverified information on social media regarding the missing flight.
“Please be sensitive to the feelings of the affected families, as they are distressed over such information,” he said yesterday after organising a prayer for the missing passengers and crew at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Bangi.
The prayer session attracted more than 30 Malaysian and foreign students.
Huang also thanked China’s ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang for visiting the affected families from the republic, and the association adviser and MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong for his support.
