KUALA LUMPUR: It is Hello again for his legions of fans here when multi-award R&B sensation Lionel Ritchie presents his All Night Long showtime live in Malaysia next month.

The American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer, whose popularity spans more than four decades, is returning after four years as part of a global tour that started in Hollywood on Sept 18 last year.

The All the Hits All Night Long showcase, which has since taken him all over the United States, Europe and Australia, is now making stops at key entertainment centres in Asia.

The show is scheduled to be held at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands on April 13.

His previous appearance was at the F1 Gala Cocktail in conjunction with the F1 races in Malaysia in March 2010.

A statement from his show organisers here quoted Richie as saying he feels lucky to sing for his fans in Malaysia.

“People always ask me, ‘What are you going to sing tonight Lionel?’

“And I always laugh and reply, ‘What are YOU going to sing tonight?’ ”.

The tour features his most famous songs, including the title song of his tour All Night Long, Hello, Say You Say Me and Endless Love.

The multi-Grammy, Academy Award and Golden Globe winner rose from humble beginnings in Tuskegee, Alabama, to become one of the most influential figures in the music industry.

His career began with the Commodores in 1968. He later made his solo debut in 1982 with a self-titled album that reached the No. 1 spot in the United States and produced the milion-selling single Truly.

A philanthropist and a breast cancer activist, he once told an event where he raised US$3.1mil (RM10.8mil) that his grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 80s, but survived and lived until she was 103 years old.
