Missing MAS flight: ‘Don’t share unverified info'

PETALING JAYA: Please stop sharing unverified information about the fate of the missing Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 and be sensitive about the situation, appealed the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam).

Its president Ismail Nasaruddin urged those on social media to stay positive until there was official confirmation from MAS about the incident.

“Let us all keep our hopes high. Nothing (allegations that the plane had crashed) should be posted in that manner because everyone should be sensitive about the situation. We should come together and pray for the best,” he told The Star.

Ismail confirmed that as of 3.20pm, MAS had yet to inform the union of any crash despite Vietnamese media reporting that the MH370 flight had crashed off Tho Chu Island.

“There were incidents from time to time, of course, but never has it happened where an aircraft lost contact for so many hours,” he said.

Ismail said the MAS flight attendant team was like “one big family” and that the news had sent shock waves reverberating throughout the crew.

He also confirmed that none of his colleagues had been able to contact any of the cabin crew, adding that they would normally contact all their friends upon landing.

“Normally, we will be able to see where they are from their Facebook posts or other social media posts,” he said.

He added that most of the cabin crew on the MH370 were seasoned flight attendants.

The cabin crew on board the flight are in-flight supervisor Patrick Francis Gomes, chief stewards Andrew Nari and Goh Sock Lay, leading stewards Tan Ser Kuin and Wan Swaid Wan Ismail and flight stewards Junaidi Mohd Kassim, Mohd Hazrin Mohamed Hasnan, Ng Yar Chien, Foong Wai Yueng and Tan Size Hiang.
