KANGAR: A local woman politician was caught for khalwat (close proximity) with a married man by the Perlis Religious Department.
The 30-year-old divorcee was caught in a hotel room with the 47-year-old businessman during a raid at 1.30am yesterday.
Sources said the raid was conducted after a tip-off, adding that the politician was clothed while the man was clad in a towel and a T-shirt.
“Both of them co-operated with the religious department officers and told them that they were not married,” one of the sources said. “They were brought to the district police headquarters where a police report was lodged.
“They are being investigated under Section 9(1)(1) of Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment, which carries a RM5,000 fine, a three-year jail term, or both, if found guilty.”
Kangar OCPD Supt Abdul Rahman Mohd Noordin confirmed that a report was lodged by a religious department officer.
