KANGAR: A local politician was caught for khalwat (close proximity) with a married man by the Perlis Religious Department.
The politician, 30, who is a divorcee, was caught with the 47-year-old businessman in a hotel room during a raid at 1.30am Monday.
Sources said the raid was carried out following a tip off, adding that the politician was fully clothed while the man was only clad in a towel and t-shirt.
“Both of them co-operated with religious department officers and told them that they were not married to each other. They were subsequently brought to the district police headquarters where a report was lodged.
“They are being investigated under the Section 9(1)(1) of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment, which carries a RM5,000 fine, a three-year jail term, or both, if found guilty,” sources said.
