Name the leaders, Khalid told

KAJANG: Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has been asked to reveal the names of party leaders who tried to influence the valuation of water assets in the state.

MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon said since the move involved public interest and had caused people in the Klang Valley to suffer, Khalid should name the leaders involved in delaying the Langat 2 project.

“The rakyat should know that the delays were due to the infighting among Pakatan Rakyat leaders and had nothing to do with the Federal Government,” he said at a press conference at the Kajang MCA operations room yesterday.

In an interview with The Star on Thursday, Khalid explained that the reason why some Pakatan leaders were left unaware of the water restructuring exercise deal with the Federal Government was to avoid the possibility of abuse of information and insider dealing.

On Wednesday, the state government had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government to facilitate the implementation of the Langat 2 project.

Chong said since the water issue in Selangor had been resolved by Khalid, there was no reason for the people to vote for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kajang.

“After the implementation of the Langat 2 project, Anwar has no other purpose to come and contest in Selangor. He should just remain as an MP in Penang and the Opposition Leader,” he said.

Asked to comment on MCA candidate Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun being labelled as “MP longkang” by the Opposition, Chong said Pakatan had no other issues to use against Chew and had to resort to attacking her personally.

“The label only shows that she is a hardworking leader who is focused on the rakyat. We urge Pakatan to debate in a professional manner based on issues and not to use personal attack against MCA’s candidate,” he added.

MIC Youth chief C. Sivarraajh also hit out at the Opposition, saying thousands of people in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur were now suffering because the Langat 2 project was delayed.

“It could have been avoided if there was no internal problem within the Pakatan Selangor Government,” he said.

In TAPAH, Perak MCA has set up a committee to reach out to Kajang voters who reside in the state. Perak MCA chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said there are about 100 registered voters for the constituency and he hoped the party could convince them to vote for Chew.

The committee, he said, would be led by state deputy chairman Datuk Ooi Jing Ting.
