KLANG: Clean water from the Sungai Rasa and Sungai Selangor 1,2 and 3 treatment plants can only last for about a week if water rationing is not done for some 750,000 households in Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, says a Selangor government official.
She said Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) had been asked since Feb 18 to come up with a plan on its water rationing exercise.
In a meeting with the state government officials held on Tuesday, she said Syabas did not agree to the proposal by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and the Selangor special water monitoring committee to initiate the exercise quickly.
“Syabas says it does not have enough time to do so.
“Because of this, some three million people are going to suffer as the raw water supply from the Selangor dam to the water treatment plants had to be reduced in stages,” she said yesterday.
The official added that if the situation persists, treated water might only last for about a week at the most.
She added that the state government, through the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), was forced to reduce raw water to the treatment plants so that the dam did not dry up.
“If Syabas had carried out a scheduled water rationing earlier like what it’s doing at the Batu 11 and Bukit Tampoi plants, treated water supply can easily last until March,’ she claimed.
