IPOH: Police have ruled out political rivalry as the motive behind the killing of a former DAP branch chairman in Seri Manjung, Perak.
State police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said 56-year-old Wong Kong Ting’s murder was not related to politics, although police were still investigating the matter.
“I felt the need to clarify this to soothe any political tension that may have arisen.
“It has also nothing to do with racial and religious sentiments,” he told journalists after the monthly gathering at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.
“We are now looking into his social and work circles,” SDCP Acryl Sani said.
Police had remanded a man for seven days until tomorrow to help in the investigations.
It was reported that oil palm replanting contractor Wong was gunned down in front of his house in Kampung Jering, about 24km from here 10pm last Wednesday.
Wong is believed to have been attacked by two gunmen who fled on a motorcycle after firing three shots.
He died at the Manjung Hospital an hour later.
On the investigations into a fake resignation letter purportedly from Hutan Melintang assemblyman S. Kesavan to quit the PKR, SDCP Acryl Sani said police had yet to identify the mastermind behind the submission of the letter to the Perak Speaker’s office earlier this month.
He said a 61-year-old man who handed in the letter to the office had given his statement to the police. He denied any knowledge of the content of the letter.
“We are close to completing the investigations. There are still some minor details that the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office needs to work out,” said SDCP Acryl Sani.
There were no plans to charge the man yet, he said.
