TAMPIN: The water situation at seven dams in Negri Sembilan is still under control.

Neverthelss, Syarikat Air Negri Sembilan Sdn Bhd (Sains) general manager Zulkifli Ibrahim said they were on the alert and monitoring the situation.

"Four of the dams, namely, Sungai Terip, Kelinchi, Talang and Gemencheh are at the alert levels. The other three dams, Sungai Beringin, Ulu Sepri and Triang are at the overflow levels.

"However, we find the level of the Gemencheh Dam has dropped. The Gemencheh Dam supplies water to 15,000 consumers in Tampin and Rembau.

"The water level at the dam today is 99.82 metres compared to the critical level of 98 metres and minimum level of 86 metres," he told reporters after visiting the Gemencheh Dam on Tuesday.

Zulkifli said the Gemencheh Dam could only last 25 days if rain did not fall soon.

He said Sains would propose a water rationing exercise to the state government if the water level at the dam continued to drop after 25 days.

"Currently, we are hoping to prolong the water supply at the dam. And, among the measures made, is to get supply from the water treatment plant in Sawah Raja, Rembau," he said.

In this regard, Zulkifli urged consumers to conserve water in light of the hot weather. - Bernama
