KOTA BARU: MCA vice-president Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung expressed confidence that the party would be selected as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kajang by-election on March 23.

He said the MCA would mobilise its leaders nationwide to help the candidate win.

The by-election was called due to the resignation of assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh of PKR. Nomination day is on Mar 11.

"Although we (the MCA) lost in the contest for the seat in the last general election, we have continued to serve the constituents of Kajang relentlessly," Dr Hou told reporters after attending a Kelantan MCA session with the media here.

Dr Hou, who is Kelantan MCA chairman, said feedback he received indicated that Barisan had a chance of winning the by-election.

He said the new MCA leadership under Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has given fresh hope to the Kajang constituents. - Bernama
