IPOH: Single mother Moo Mee Khoon kept her fingers crossed throughout Chinese New Year that her missing daughter would return.

Her prayers went unanswered – she did not receive any call from her daughter Tan Shiau Yee, who was only 15-years-old when she left home during Christmas in 2012.

Moo, a 51-year-old food stall trader in Kampar, said she had not seen her daughter since Shiau Yee’s male friend, in his 20s, purportedly took her away to Johor.

“Shiau Yee was taken away from her brother when she visited him in Puchong. In February last year, she informed us through a handwritten note that she was working as a masseuse in the southern state.

“She mentioned that she had lost her phone and won’t be able to call home,” said Moo in between sobs at the service centre of Bercham state assemblyman Cheong Chee Khing yesterday.

“We have lodged several police reports on her disappearance,” she said, adding that her missing daughter was the youngest child in the family.

Moo said she believed the male friend was also a Kampar resident as she had seen them on a motorcycle.

Moo also alleged that her daughter had stopped going to school and started spending nights away from home.

“I advised her to complete her studies but she rejected my suggestion in a respectful manner,” said Moo, who added that she was concerned for Shiau Yee’s safety, and hoped her daughter could contact any of her family members as soon as possible.

Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran, who was also present at the press conference, and Cheong said they hoped the police could carry out investigations to locate Shiau Yee.
