Man arrested over Facebook posting on Thaipusam

PETALING JAYA: A man who posted seditious remarks about Thaipusam on Facebook has been arrested.

Inspector-General Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted about the arrest saying “Akhirnya ‘MAN NANBLAST’ yg muat kata2 berunsur hasutan semasa upacara Thaipusam tempoh hari, berjaya ditangkap tadi @PDRMsia (At last, MAN NANBLAST who posted seditious statements during Thaipusam has been arrested).

No details of the man have been released.

The Facebook user, identified by Man Namblast on his profile, posted the status during Thaipusam day on Jan 17, saying “Berpuluh ribu syaitan sedang berarak menaiki tangga Batu Cave” (Tens of thousands of devils are marching up the stairs of Batu Caves).

At least 178 police reports were lodged in the following days.

Khalid had earlier said that the police will work with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to track down the user.
