KOTA KINABALU: The family of restaurant manager Riduan Masmud has yet to raise the RM15,000 bail imposed on him by a Sessions Court, pending his appeal against the conviction and sentence for raping an underaged girl here.
His counsel, Ram Singh, said the man’s family hoped to raise the money within this week.
Riduan, 41, would have to spend a few more days in custody if his family is unable to raise the sum by then.
Judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad had sentenced Riduan to 12 years’ jail and ordered him to be given two lashes of the whip for the offence that was committed in a parked car near the Kionsom waterfall in Inanam between 9am and 10am on Feb 18 last year.
Riduan later took the girl, who was 12 then, as his second wife.
Ummu Kalthom has given his family up to 5pm on Monday to raise the bail amount, failing which he will be spending his first night at the state prison in Kepayan.
