PETALING JAYA: PKR has quashed talk that there were moves by certain groups to replace Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with party deputy president Azmin Ali during its central leadership meeting last week.
Its secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution said the meeting only discussed the increase of business fee licence in Selangor, concerns over the restructuring of the state water assets and the status of the Langat 2 project as well as the allowance review for Selangor assemblymen and the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
“However, during the meeting, there were three to four extreme members out of 55 who were in attendance, who had expressed their views that Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should be removed,” he said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters yesterday.
“It is just an opinion from some members of the central leadership council members and not a proposal.
“We did not make any decision to replace the Selangor MB.”
He was responding to a report in a Chinese-language daily on Wednesday that there was a call made during the central leadership council meeting to oust Khalid in favour of Gombak MP Azmin.
Saifuddin also noted that the central leadership council had submitted an official letter to the Selangor MB’s office for Azmin’s reinstatement as a director on the Selangor State Development Corporation’s (PKNS) board.
“Azmin chaired the meeting and allowed the attendees to express their views,” Saifuddin said.
“It is not proper for PKR to make a unilateral decision on something as big as replacing the MB without consulting our Pakatan Rakyat partners.”
When asked if these “extreme voices” were tolerable, he said PKR was a democratic party and such views were allowed as long as they were communicated through proper party channels.
Asked to comment on the transfer of two senior PKNS officers to the state secretariat building, Saifuddin said the party does not interfere with state matters.
