GEORGE TOWN: With the Chinese New Year just a week away, restaurant bookings here for traditional reunion meals on the eve of the celebration are going full steam.
Hotel Equatorial Penang public relations manager Debra Gerardine Jayesuria said their Kampachi restaurant had already been fully booked early this month for the Lunar Eve Buffet Dinner.
“We began receiving bookings in December and by the first week of January, we were full,” she said yesterday.
The buffet dinner offers assorted sushi and sashimi, teppanyaki, tempura, hot pot and the cold bar which showcases fresh oysters, prawns and tomato surinagashi.
The spread also offers selections like chikuzen ni, saba shioyaki, kushi age, deep-fried breaded white fish, yaki udon and homemade miso cream croquette.
“Guests can choose soba and udon with varying accompaniments, like crispy tempura batter, inari, wakame seaweed and kinshi tamago.
“A spread of pastries, five flavours of ice-cream and zensai cap the entire meal experience,” Jayesuria said.
She added that the restaurant would also be holding a Lunar Day Buffet Dinner on Jan 31.
Flamingo Cafe food and beverage assistant captain Nor Shahirah Shahidan said they had received bookings for 100 people for their Chinese New Year reunion buffet dinner on Jan 30.
“Our international buffet will have more than 20 choices of dishes. Reservation will close when we reach 150 people,” she said.
At Georgetown City Hotel in Burmah Road, the response has also been encouraging.
Food and beverage manager Arthur Thomas said they had also lined up a performance of 12 thundering drums, a lion dance and a special visit from the God of Prosperity.
“There will be a lucky draw during the eight-course dinner which will be held at the grand ballroom of the hotel at 7.30pm on Jan 30,” he said.
