PETALING JAYA: Having lost her eldest son to an accident 14 years ago, news of R. Surendren’s death was a bitter pill to swallow for 52-year-old G. Suselah.
The grieving mother was accompanied by a slew of relatives at the Universiti Malaya Medical Center on Saturday, as she identified her 28-year-old son’s body at the mortuary.
G. Suselah told reporters that R. Surendren, a despatch rider, went missing after a night out drinking with four friends at Taman Maju Jaya on Jan 14.
“All five men, including Suren, decided to go to Petaling Garden for another round of drinks.
“His friends noticed something amiss when he failed to show up and wasn’t answering any of their calls,” said G.Suselah.
The insurance agent added that she received a missed call from her son’s number at 9.15pm the next day.
However, she was unable to reach R. Surendren’s mobile phone when she called him back.
“Suren was staying with his aunt in Cheras as it was closer to his workplace.
“When I called her asking for his whereabouts, she told me that he hadn’t come home since Wednesday night.
“Our family formed a search party and had been looking for him since then,” G.Suselah said.
Her second son, R. Satish, found R. Surendren’s body strewn in a drain near the Kampung Datu Haron KTM station 9pm on Friday.
It is alleged that he was last seen riding his red and white Yamaha motorcycle in Pandan Indah.
“We are still coming to grips with Suren’s death. He had always been hardworking and was only a month shy of turning 29,” said the disheartened mother.
She added that R.Surendren’s pouch bag, mobile phone and wallet was missing when he was found.
The number plates on his motorcycle was also missing, leading to theories of foul play in his death.
Meanwhile, Petaling Jaya OCPD ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said on Friday night that Surendren might have been dead for about two days and classified the case as a sudden death.
