Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament P. Kamalanathan.
PETALING JAYA: An Umno member, who allegedly punched Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament P. Kamalanathan, has been issued a show-cause letter by the party.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the party would take action against Mohamad Rizuan Suhaimi, the Hulu Selangor Youth assistant secretary, for allegedly assaulting the Deputy Education Minister.
"The Umno top leadership regrets the incident and we believe it should never have happened.
"We will take action against him and we have sent him a show-cause letter which should be answered before further action is taken," he said in a statement Wednesday.
On Sunday, Kamalanathan made a police report following the assault by the Umno member who was unhappy that his wife, a teacher, was denied a transfer request to Hulu Selangor.
It was reported the suspect, upset over Kamalanathan's refusal, argued with him and then allegedly struck his neck.
Tengku Adnan said Umno rejected any form of violence.
"No matter what, Umno's way of dealing with disagreement is through meetings and discussion, without any violence involved," he said.
