Indonesian maid who started work a week ago falls to her death

GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian maid fell to her death while carrying out household chores on the eighth floor of an apartment building in Sungai Nibong here.

Anik Susanti, 33, was mopping the floor near a window of a room when she slipped and fell through the window at about 8.30am Tuesday.

She had only begun working as a maid at the apartment unit last Wednesday.

"The employer only realised Anik had fallen from the window when she called her for breakfast," Penang Northeast police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng told reporters.

He said a post-mortem showed that Anik died of severe head and chest injuries due to the fall.

He said initial investigations did not indicate foul play, adding that the case was classified as sudden death.

The Indonesian Consulate had been informed of the incident. - Bernama
