FOR politicians, social media can be as much of a minefield as a goldmine of political capital.
Tampines GRC MP Baey Yam Keng, for example, has won praise for his efforts to connect with netizens on Facebook and Twitter. But he was criticised recently after he posted a photo of his nasi padang meal, for which he had paid S$2.50. The meal turned out to cost more than S$2.50 – he was given a discount – and several netizens slammed Baey for receiving preferential treatment.
