PETALING JAYA: The trial of a couple charged with murdering their daughter will proceed after a magistrate’s court here ruled they were mentally stable.
Magistrate KB Elena Hong Tze Lan made the decision after receiving medical reports on Hiew Yook Cheang, 50, and his wife Wong Yin Tinn, 38, yesterday.
The contractor and his wife nodded after the charge was read out to them in Mandarin. However, no plea was recorded.
They are alleged to have murdered Mabel Hiew Mun at an apartment in Taman Sri Manja here between 7pm on Sept 13 and 8am on Sept 17, 2013.
The charge carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The court set Feb 21 for case mention pending an autopsy report. — Bernama
