Strong winds and rough seas warning for four states

KUALA LUMPUR: The Meteorological Department has issued a third category warning for strong winds and rough seas along the coasts of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor.

The rough weather condition is expected to last until tomorrow.

In a statement, the department said the situation might cause winds of up to 60kph and waves over 5.5m high, and expose these areas to the danger of high water levels.

“Strong winds and rough seas also present a danger to beach and shipping activities, including those on oil platforms,” it said.

There is also a second category warning for strong winds and choppy seas expected in the interior and west coast areas and Kudat in Sabah, Labuan, and Sarawak with winds of between 50kph and 60kph as well as waves of up to 4.5m.

The situation is dangerous for beach and shipping activities, including fishing and ferry services, said the department. — Bernama
