BUTTERWORTH: The 12-year-old boy who was reported to have gone missing from home is back with his family.
It is learnt Ang Jia Kian had taken a bus to Malacca after he walked out of the family home in Bagan Jermal here, with his MyKad and backpack containing his clothes, savings, a blanket and toiletries.
He was said to have spent two nights at a fast food restaurant in Malacca and returned here to stay with relatives to avoid the media.
His father, Ang Cheng Hock, said his son arrived back in Penang at about 11pm on Sunday. “My brother-in-law brought him back from Malacca,” he said.
The family had lodged a police report when he did not return home after leaving their apartment at about 6am on Friday.
His mother, housewife Tan Sok Hoon, 41, had said the boy was probably upset after he was told off several times for not wanting to stay at home. She had also told him, in a huff, to go out and earn his own income.
The media carried a photograph of Jia Kian and his sister posing on a bicycle at Armenian Street during a recent outing in George Town.
Jian Kian is due to start secondary school when the new term begins. North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahman Ibrahim confirmed Jia Kian’s return home.
